Haysville, KS (KROC-AM News)- A crash on the Kansas Turnpike claimed the lives of a woman and baby from Minnesota

The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the deadly incident shortly after midnight on Thursday. Two vehicles were involved in the fatality, which resulted in 10 other people, including a one-year-old, suffering injuries. 

It happened on Interstate 35 south of Wichita. The Minnesotans were two of nine occupying a van that was towing a trailer.

Woman & Baby from Minneapolis Killed, 10 Others Injured in I-35 Crash

The van and trailer overturned in the southbound lanes and was struck by a southbound Jeep, the Kansas Highway Patrol says

Authorities identified the woman killed in the crash as 58-year-old Ernestina Eumana-Alverez and the infant, who was less than a year old, as Christian Gutierrez

The woman and baby from Minneapolis were pronounced dead at the scene. Eumana-Alverez was buckled up and the infant was not restrained, the state crash report says. 

55-year-old Tiburcio Gonzalez of Circle Pines, MN was identified as the driver. He is believed to have suffered a serious injury.

 The crash report also includes the identities and medical conditions of the other van occupants: 

   67-year-old Ines Benitez-Miranda, serious injury 

   47-year-old Roberto Cuate of Richfield, MN, serious injury 

   27-year-old Rosa Gutierrez of Minneapolis, serious injury

   63-year-old Roberto Gutierrez Quintero of Minneapolis, serious injury 

   64-year-old Reyna Linares De Cucate of Richfield, MN, minor injury 

   1-year-old Santiago Gutierrez of Minneapolis, minor injury.  

All of the injured van occupants were taken to a hospital for further care.

 

The three people in Jeep, identified as Kansas and Oklahoma residents, suffered what are suspected to be minor injuries. They were also brought to a hospital for further care.
