Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- An Olmsted County Judge has convicted one of two men charged in a shooting at a Rochester apartment complex earlier this year.

Rochester Police responded to the report of an active shooting at the Homestead Village Apartments in the 800 block of 16th Ave. Southeast on the evening of Sept. 10. 

Responding officers found an apartment building and vehicle had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

Court documents say the investigation determined two men, identified as 34-year-old Scott Bunch and 30-year-old Alanzo Kelly, were shooting at each other.

The complaint against Kelly includes a statement Bunch gave to officers in which Bunch stated he wanted to fight Kelly for breaking his friend’s leg.

Bunch claimed Kelly started shooting at him when Bunch, who court documents say lives in a neighboring apartment complex, arrived in the area. 

Kelly told police that Bunch started shooting at him, the complaint says. Bunch was arrested shortly after the shooting and Kelly was taken into custody several hours later.

Both Rochester residents were charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence. 

The Olmsted County Attorney’s Office then added a second-degree assault charge against Bunch.

Bunch, who court records say was convicted of first-degree robbery in a 2015 case in Olmsted County, opted for a judge to render a verdict in the case. 

The judge found Bunch guilty on all three charges. His sentencing date has not yet been scheduled.

Earlier this month Kelly pleaded guilty to one count of reckless discharge of a firearm in exchange for the dismissal of possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January.
