City Reviewing Report, Partial Occupancy Request for Rochester Towers
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- City of Rochester officials are reviewing an engineer’s analysis and a request for partial occupancy at the Rochester Towers.
The approximately 180 residents of the 12-story condominium were evacuated from the building on June 2 after an inspection of the more than 50-year-old building found structural issues serious enough to spark concerns of a possible collapse. Crews have been making repairs to shore up the structure since the evacuation.
A news release issued by officials Friday morning says the City of Rochester Community Development Department received an analysis report from an engineer that also includes a request for partial occupancy. The report is now being reviewed by city officials and a decision regarding the partial occupancy request is expected within five business days.
“The approval to return to full occupancy will be dependent upon the full scope and magnitude of the issues identified along with the corresponding construction schedule for their remediation,” the news release says.
The building’s residents were temporarily allowed back into the building after emergency repairs earlier this month to retrieve their belongings.
