Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow) - A Minnesota woman has been handed a 26-year prison sentence for killing two people in a traffic crash.

Vehicle Smashed Into Bus Shelter

Forty-year-old Teniki Latrice Steward was arrested in December 2024 after emergency responders in Minneapolis were called to the scene of a crash and found a badly damaged SUV that had been involved in a collision that caused it to travel a considerable distance and smash into a bus stop shelter.

2 People Killed

Court documents indicate that one of the occupants of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, and another succumbed to critical injuries while being treated at the hospital. Emergency responders also located a third victim, a juvenile, who had been struck by the SUV while standing on the sidewalk next to the bus shelter and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Defendant Also Injured

The criminal complaint in the case says Steward was found in another SUV that had come to rest in the yard of a residence near the intersection where the two vehicles collided. She and her passenger were also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Caught on Camera Speeding Through Red Light

According to the charges, witnesses and surveillance video provided evidence that the deadly crash occurred when Steward sped through a red light at a high rate of speed. The criminal complaint says investigators also determined Steward nearly caused another accident just before the fatal collision.
