Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man has been charged in connection to a robbery and assault reported at a gas station within the city earlier this year.

The criminal complaint, filed in Olmsted County Court earlier this week, alleges the robbery occurred in April at a gas station along North Broadway Ave. The name of the convenience store is not listed in the court document. 

Rochester police responded to the gas station on the report of a robbery and assault shortly before 7:00 on the evening of April 13.

Charges: Rochester Man Punched, Choked Gas Station Clerk Over Prepaid Gas Dispute

The responding officer found the victim, breathing heavily, with a bloodied lip, bump on the back of his head and a red mark on the left side of his face, the charges say. 

The victim told police a customer became upset over prepaid gasoline and demanded $20 from the victim. A review of video camera footage shows the customer reaching across the counter and punching the victim in the head.

He then took the victim to the ground after the victim walked out from behind the counter to defend himself, the complaint says. 

The suspect was then seen choking the victim, who told police he offered the assailant $20 if he would stop strangling him. The suspect is seen taking $20 from the counter then leaving the store, according to the court filing. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for his injuries, the charges say.

Investigators identified the suspect as 28-year-old  Boubacar Diop Diagne. He is charged with felony simple robbery and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault. 

Diagne is due to make his first court appearance in January.
