New Year’s Day Kitchen Fire Breaks Out at Home Near Downtown Rochester, One Person Treated
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A New Year’s Day Fire in Rochester required one person to be medically treated by an ambulance crew.

That’s according to a news release issued by the Rochester Fire Department. Crews were called to the scene around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Multiple engines and other fire department resources responded to the scene near Olmsted Medical Center and downtown Rochester.
Firefighters Assist Occupant Out of Burning Southeast Rochester, MN Home
The fire broke out in the 900 block of 3rd Ave. Southeast. Responding firefighters found smoke coming from a side door on the home.
Firefighters helped get one person, who was just inside of the structure, outdoors. Another person made it out of the home before crews arrived, the news release says.
Crews found the fire burning in the home’s kitchen and contained the blaze to that room. No one else was found inside of the residence.
The person pulled from the house was treated by a Mayo Clinic Ambulance Crew at the scene. No other injuries were reported and a damage estimate is not yet available.
The news release does not say what caused the fire, however the Rochester Fire Department points out that cooking is the leading cause of house fires and caused $6 million in damages last year.
The most common causes for kitchen fires are inattentive cooking and placing combustible materials near a heat source, according to the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
Members of the Rochester Police Department, American Red Cross and the Rochester Fire Department Chaplin also responded to the fire call.
